The design of the tie reflects both Darkies Designs’ reverence and approbation of Australia’s servicemen and women, past and present, while also incorporating traditional Indigenous Australian art motifs, patterns and designs. The black dots on either side of the waved lines represent the, then opposing, forces our brave servicemen travelled abroad to battle, the lines represent their path to and from faraway lands and battles. The asymmetrical design of the larger ‘circled swirls’ represent the zeitgeist of turmoil which defined the period of the First World War and the desecration of lands and countries by the war.
The First World War is shown through the design of the uniforms, through analogies and metaphors common of many Indigenous Australian cultures and religious beliefs, to have metaphorically stained the land and localities on which battles were fought, making them all the more consecrate
